Sirika, who served as the aviation minister under former President Muhammadu Buhari, is now under scrutiny for the Nigeria Air deal, which has raised concerns about its transparency and legitimacy. Keyamo mentioned this development during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today program.
Keyamo stated, “The EFCC is investigating that deal. There is a criminal investigation going on. I have called for the report.”
This revelation comes after reports in May revealed that the plane unveiled by then-President Buhari, a few days before leaving office, was over 10 years old and belonged to Ethiopian Airlines. The unveiling sparked controversy and criticism, with questions raised about the authenticity and credibility of the Nigeria Air project.
The Concerned Northern Forum had also criticized the Nigeria Air launch, labeling it a “half-baked project” driven by lies, deception, corruption, and personal financial gains for former Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika.
Keyamo further clarified that the current government, led by Tinubu, has no plans to revamp any existing local airline into a national carrier. Instead, the focus is on establishing a proper and transparent national carrier that adheres to industry standards. The ongoing EFCC investigation aims to bring clarity and accountability to the Nigeria Air deal, ensuring that any wrongdoing is addressed appropriately.
