The Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC) has announced that local government elections in the state will take place on Saturday, October 5, 2024. Ngwu further directed interested parties to obtain election guidelines and relevant information from the commission’s headquarters situated at Independence Layout Enugu.

The decision to fix the election date comes after a series of adjustments prompted by legal proceedings. Initially slated for February 24, 2024, the election was postponed following a court order requiring ENSIEC to revise its original guidelines and timetable, as published in the official gazette of Enugu State on September 26, 2023.

Former Chairman of ENSIEC, Mike Ajogu, clarified that the postponement was necessitated by a High Court Enugu State judgment in the case of Action Alliance versus Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (suit no E/682/2023), which mandated adjustments to the commission’s previously published schedule.

As a result, the Enugu State Local Government Election 2024, initially planned for February 24, has been rescheduled to October 5, 2024, to comply with the court’s directive
