Mbah explained that the crackdown aims to eliminate poor educational standards and address skill deficiencies within the system. Among the schools affected were Evangel School, Ivory Education Centre on Owerri Road in Asata, and Eastview Nursery and Primary School located at Railway Quarters, Njemanze. Other closures included St. Michael Nursery and Primary School, St. Bartholomew Nursery, Primary and Secondary School, and Olive Grove Nursery and Primary Academy, all situated in Asata and Njemanze.

The commissioner emphasized that this enforcement followed a prior directive from the ministry requiring all educational institutions at the basic and secondary levels to adhere to state regulations. Registration and approval by the ministry have become mandatory for any school wishing to operate.

“We informed our communities about the state government’s education policy and the necessity for education to align with advanced global practices so that our children can acquire 21st-century skills and compete effectively on a global scale. We provided a four-month grace period for schools to register or obtain provisional licenses,” Mbah stated.

He added that this initiative is essential to curtail abuses and restore the integrity of education in Enugu State. Mbah expressed disappointment at finding some schools operating in dilapidated conditions, including open roofs, fallen rafters, and severe structural damage.
