Ex-Buhari Aide Sparks Debate: Says ISWAP Threatens Christians Alone
Former presidential aide Bashir Ahmad has denounced recent threats issued by the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) against Christians in Nigeria, insisting that the group’s actions have no foundation in Islamic teachings.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Ahmad made the comments on Friday via his official (formerly Twitter) account, clearly distancing Islam from the activities of the terrorist group and describing their campaign as a gross misrepresentation of the faith.
“The ISWAP terrorists threatening Christians to convert to Islam or face death are clearly not Muslims, and their actions in no way reflect Islam or its teachings,” he wrote.
He emphasised that Islam strictly prohibits coercion in matters of belief, noting that the religion historically spread through peaceful engagement rather than force.
“Islam was never propagated through intimidation or violence. The Qur’an clearly states that there is no compulsion in religion,” Ahmad said, adding that during the lifetime of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), Muslims lived peacefully alongside non-Muslims in Makkah and Madinah, guided by justice, mutual respect and shared humanity.
Ahmad further described ISWAP’s threats and acts of violence as a fundamental betrayal of Islamic values and an affront to humanity.
“What these terrorists are doing represents a complete distortion of Islam. Their renewed campaign of violence and intimidation is entirely condemnable and stands in opposition to both our faith and basic human principles,” he added.
