This re-arraignment follows the withdrawal of their previous case from the Federal High Court in Ilorin after the transfer of the presiding judge, Justice Evelyn Anyadike. Ahmed and Banu had initially faced a 12-count charge for mismanagement of public funds on April 29, 2024, to which they pleaded not guilty.

Notably, while both individuals are named in the charges, count 7 specifically accuses only Ahmed of failing to complete an asset declaration form upon his arrest, an offence that could result in a five-year prison sentence. Among the allegations, Ahmed is accused of misusing over N1.6 billion meant for state security and administration to charter private jets through Travel Messengers Limited, in violation of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act.
