The session was attended by governors Bala Mohammed (Bauchi), Dauda Lawal (Zamfara), Agbu Kefas (Taraba), Ahmadu Fintiri (Adamawa), Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Douye Diri (Bayelsa), and Ademola Adeleke (Osun).
During the meeting, the governors discussed key national issues including the state of the nation, security challenges, erosion of democratic values, and strategies to strengthen the PDP ahead of its upcoming national convention.
In the communiqué, the forum expressed its commitment to rescuing Nigerians from the perceived divisive governance of the APC, whose policies they claim have caused widespread hardship. They also praised party supporters for their loyalty and resilience despite intimidation and anti-democratic actions by the APC during recent by-elections.
The governors alleged that these by-elections were heavily militarized and marred by irregularities, vote-buying, and violence. They reaffirmed their backing for the PDP national convention scheduled for November and urged members to resist any attempts to derail it.
Despite recent defections, the forum insisted that the PDP continues to appeal to Nigerians. The communiqué stated:
“The forum commends the resilience of PDP leaders and members in overcoming orchestrated defections, stressing that such distractions cannot diminish the party’s grassroots appeal or the growing public desire for affordable living and relative security experienced under PDP-led administrations.
We urge members, supporters, and all citizens to remain committed to the vision and principles of the PDP, despite increasing intimidation by the ruling government. This situation reflects the desperation of a political party with no agenda or vision, doomed to face rejection by the people.”
On insecurity, the governors condemned ongoing killings in states such as Katsina, Plateau, Niger, and Benue, calling on the federal government to act decisively to protect citizens’ lives and properties.
