The South East zone of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has resolved to re-present the name of Sunday Ude-Okoye as its nominee for the position of National Secretary, ahead of the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting scheduled for May 27.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

This was disclosed by the PDP spokesperson in Ebonyi State, Nwali Nwafor, during a conversation with our reporter on Tuesday.

It was earlier reported that the PDP Governors’ Forum, during a meeting held in Ibadan, Oyo State on Monday, endorsed Deputy National Secretary Setonji Koshedo to temporarily assume the role of National Secretary, following a Supreme Court ruling.

In their communiqué, the governors stated that Koshedo would hold the position in acting capacity until a substantive National Secretary from the South East is nominated and ratified by the NEC.

Speaking on the matter, Nwafor emphasized that the South East had long concluded on Ude-Okoye as the rightful replacement for Senator Samuel Anyanwu.

“Yes, we are fully aware that the nomination of Chief S.K.E. Ude-Okoye to succeed Anyanwu had already been agreed upon within the South East zone. What remains is to re-present his name to the National Working Committee (NWC) ahead of the NEC meeting,” he said.

He applauded the governors’ position, noting that their move had helped resolve the lingering dispute over the office.

Nwafor also clarified that while Koshedo would continue in acting capacity until the NEC meeting, the NWC is expected to ratify Ude-Okoye’s nomination in one of its sessions before the NEC convenes.

“The nomination of Chief Setonji is valid despite the prolonged legal dispute involving Anyanwu. He will act until the NEC meets, but the NWC is expected to formally approve Ude-Okoye’s replacement of Anyanwu beforehand,” he added.
