Falana Criticizes FG For Scrapping Electricity Subsidy In 2022 Amid Tariff Hike....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Renowned human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, has voiced his strong opposition to the recent surge in electricity tariffs, pointing out that the Nigerian government terminated electricity subsidies back in 2022. Speaking during a broadcast on Channels TV, Falana emphasized that Nigerians are now bearing the brunt of inefficiencies and incompetence within the electricity sector management.

According to Falana, “The federal government of Nigeria officially ended electricity subsidies in 2022. What we’re witnessing now is essentially the passing of the burden onto Nigerians, who are forced to pay for the shortcomings, lavishness, and ineptitude of those overseeing the electricity domain in Nigeria.”

His remarks coincide with widespread dissatisfaction among Nigerians regarding the latest tariff hike.

Earlier announcements from the administration of President Bola Tinubu revealed a fresh escalation in electricity tariffs, prompting sharp reactions from various quarters.

Peter Obi, former Governor of Anambra State and the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), criticized the increased tariffs for Band A consumers, urging the Tinubu administration to adopt a more strategic approach and consider the long-term consequences.

Similarly, Senate Chief Whip, Senator Ali Ndume, expressed dismay over the timing of the tariff hike, labeling it as ill-timed and insensitive to the plight of the citizens.
