False Narrative Exposed: Nnamdi Kanu’s Lawyer Blasts Misleading Publication

Human rights lawyer, Barrister Christopher Chidera, has strongly denounced a recent article attacking Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), calling it a “malicious publication” driven by ignorance and deceit.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The piece, titled “How Nnamdi Kanu Sought to Please South-Easterners with Hilarious Propaganda,” was described by Chidera as a deliberate attempt to discredit Kanu, sow division between him and his supporters, and portray him as a peddler of absurd conspiracy theories.

According to Chidera, the publication amounts to a smear campaign — a “hatchet job” allegedly backed by British interests aimed at weakening Kanu’s influence among the Igbo people and undermining his message about Nigeria’s systemic deception.

He emphasized that Kanu is not imprisoned for fabricating lies, but rather for boldly speaking truth to power.

“What the authors and their British sponsors fail to grasp is that Nnamdi Kanu does not rely on propaganda to gain the trust of his people. He stands on truth, resilience, and an unshakable commitment to justice. Despite abduction, torture, and extraordinary rendition, Kanu remains unbroken — unlike his faceless critics who cower behind anonymity,” Chidera said.

He also questioned why, if Kanu’s alleged claims were truly “hilarious propaganda,” the Nigerian government has never officially charged him for them — particularly the accusation that former President Buhari died in 2017 and was replaced by a lookalike.

“If the claim about Buhari being replaced was truly so absurd, why didn’t the government prosecute him for it?” Chidera asked. “Instead, they only charged him with insulting Buhari, not for the claim that shook the nation.”

Chidera criticized some Igbos who support such narratives against Kanu, branding them as complicit in their own oppression.

“To the Efulefu Igbos clapping for this trash, you are mocking your ancestors. Your silence, fear, and collaboration are why Igbo land remains militarized, why our youths are killed, and why our freedom is still a dream. Kanu is not your enemy — your cowardice is.”

The lawyer also cast doubt on the true identity of the article’s author, one “Pephel,” suggesting the name is either a poor attempt at mimicry or a pseudonym hiding an anti-Igbo agenda.

“That name alone exposes the deceit,” he said. “This isn’t someone from the land of the rising sun. It’s either an outsider posing as Igbo, or worse, a sellout who has betrayed his roots for crumbs.”

Chidera concluded by decrying a broader issue — the lack of critical thinking among Africans.

“Africa’s greatest curse isn’t colonialism — it’s mental slavery. We worship power, not truth. We obey without question. We attack those who speak truth because it makes us uncomfortable. Until we learn to reason critically, demand evidence, and confront uncomfortable realities, we’ll remain trapped — not by colonial chains, but by our refusal to think.”
