In an interview with News Central on Thursday, Mrs. Fashola, wife of former Governor Babatunde Fashola, explained that all the projects she initiated as First Lady were personally funded by her, as no government resources were allocated to her.

She disclosed that some individuals were allegedly receiving funds from the Ministry of Education in her name without her knowledge. However, she emphasized that she had no influence on her husband’s decisions while they were in office.

Mrs. Fashola explained that the empowerment programs she organized were presented to President Tinubu during her 45th birthday. It was then that he became aware she had been carrying out these initiatives without government backing, and directed local government chairmen in the state to provide financial support.

“I remember at one point, the Ministry of Education thought they were giving me money from their department. To this day, I’m unsure what happened in between, but I later learned that someone might have been collecting money on my behalf. When I heard this, I said, even if you gave me half of what was supposedly given, I know exactly what I would have done with it. But I never received any money,” she said.

“It wasn’t until my 45th birthday, when President Tinubu learned about the work I had been doing, that he asked if anyone had supported me financially. When I told him no, he directed the local government chairmen to provide funding for my programs, and that was the only time money was deposited into my account,” she added.

Mrs. Fashola confirmed that she continued her empowerment initiatives even after leaving office, stressing that the projects were her personal responsibility and were never handed over to the state. “My projects are mine, and that’s why I’m still running them to this day,” she concluded.
