Last year, tensions escalated between the two communities, stemming from disagreements over land and fishing lake encroachments. The dispute led to a war of words, with one community alleging threats of attack by the other. They had appealed to the state government for intervention to mediate the escalating conflict.

A source from one of the communities, speaking anonymously, revealed that the conflict had been simmering since the previous year when their community had issued an open letter seeking government intervention. The plea was aimed at urging the state government to address the alleged aggressions of Okuama community.

The violent clash erupted on Saturday between 5 pm and 6 pm, resulting in six casualties on the side of Okuama, including three mercenaries from different communities, identified as Urhobo and Ijaw mercenaries.

The source warned of the potential for renewed hostilities, stating, “Today, any moment from now (around 5.20 pm), any side can start the attack again.” The situation remains tense, emphasizing the urgent need for intervention and resolution to prevent further loss of life and injuries in the ongoing conflict.
