Former governor of Ekiti State and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Fayose, has revealed his reasons for working against the PDP’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, in the last general elections. Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics programme, Fayose expressed his dissatisfaction with the PDP, stating that he worked “100%” for the victory of Bola Tinubu, the flag bearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in Ekiti.

Fayose cited unfair treatment by the PDP as the basis for his decision. He expressed disappointment with the party’s suspension of himself and his son, Oluwajomiloju, despite his significant contributions and sacrifices for the PDP. Fayose questioned the party’s actions, considering the immense suffering he had endured for the PDP’s cause.

As a member of the G5 or the Integrity Group within the PDP, Fayose criticized the party’s choice of Atiku as its presidential candidate, asserting that a Southern Nigerian should succeed the Northern President, Muhammadu Buhari, after his two-term tenure. Fayose emphasized the need for a South-Westerner to take the helm of leadership, emphasizing the importance of regional balance.

Fayose vowed to take legal action against the PDP if they take disciplinary actions against him for supporting Tinubu. He reaffirmed his commitment to speaking out against any attempts to suppress his voice and expressed his readiness to take the matter to court if necessary.

During his visit to the President at Aso Villa, Fayose clarified that the purpose was unrelated to his ongoing court case with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). He also stated that he would not accept any ministerial position from the President, urging Tinubu to ensure a diverse cabinet composition that includes representation for older individuals, women, and young people.
