Fear Grips Plateau University Community As Gunmen Kidnap 100-Level Student

Gunmen have abducted a female undergraduate of Plateau State University (PLASU), Bokkos, and attacked another person during a violent incident in an off-campus student residential community in Plateau State.

The attack reportedly occurred at about 8:40 p.m. on Saturday, October 31, 2026, in Bokkos Local Government Area, where several students reside outside the university’s main premises.

The abducted student was identified as Miss Favour Ayuba, a 100-level student in the Department of Mass Communication. During the incident, the President of the National Association of Religious Students (NARS), PLASU Chapter, who also serves as the association’s National Welfare Minister, was reportedly attacked and stabbed multiple times.

A student who spoke anonymously to journalists in Jos on Sunday disclosed that Ayuba was with another female student when the attackers struck and took her away.

The source confirmed that the undergraduate had not been seen since the incident, expressing concern over her safety and calling on security agencies to intensify efforts to secure her release.

A staff member of the institution also confirmed that the university management had received reports of a shooting in one of the off-campus residential areas occupied by students.

According to the staff member, the latest incident marked the second reported shooting involving the area within four weeks, raising fresh concerns about the security situation around the university community.

Although the attack occurred outside the university’s premises, the staff member said the management was worried about the safety of students living in surrounding neighbourhoods.

He explained that the institution had been making efforts to accommodate more students within the campus to reduce their exposure to security threats in nearby communities. However, financial constraints have limited the university’s ability to expand its accommodation facilities.

The staff member disclosed that the university’s hostels currently have the capacity to accommodate only about 1,000 students, despite the institution having a student population of nearly 20,000.

The incident has renewed calls for stronger security measures around the university and urgent intervention by relevant authorities to ensure the safe return of the abducted student and protect other members of the community.
