From Argument To Marriage: How ₦100,000 Bride Price Turned Noodles Spot Into Wedding Venue
An unusual incident in Minna, the Niger State capital, has attracted attention after an argument between a young man and a woman reportedly ended in an unexpected marriage at a local noodles spot.
The incident, which occurred on Wednesday night at Sani Mai Indomie’s spot in the Shiroro area of Minna, was narrated by Niger State-based journalist Muhammad Hassan Sonmaji.
According to Sonmaji, the drama began when a young woman identified as Nana and a man named Isah engaged in an argument during which Isah reportedly told her that he was not qualified to marry her.
In response, Nana challenged him to prove his seriousness by immediately producing ₦100,000 as her bride price.
To the surprise of people present, Isah reportedly reached into his pocket, brought out the money and handed it over to her.
The unexpected development attracted the involvement of other people at the location. The tea seller reportedly volunteered to serve as the bride’s guardian, traditionally known as the Wali, while another man identified as Ado offered to represent the groom’s family.
A marriage ceremony was subsequently conducted at the noodles spot, turning what reportedly began as a joke and argument into an unexpected wedding.
However, the arrangement took another turn when Nana’s father was contacted. He reportedly rejected the initial ceremony and insisted that the couple should visit his residence the following morning for another marriage ceremony.
The journalist disclosed that the marriage was formally conducted again on Thursday morning at the bride’s father’s residence, after which Nana reportedly moved into her husband’s home.
The unusual incident has generated interest because of the unexpected way the couple’s disagreement reportedly resulted in a marriage, beginning with a challenge over a ₦100,000 bride price at a local food spot.
