Mrs. Olukorede Kesha, the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos State, made this appeal on Thursday during a tour of various sections of the project. She was accompanied by members of the Nigeria Society of Engineers.
Kesha reassured the public that while the construction of such a large-scale project inevitably causes disruptions, the positive outcomes will ultimately benefit the entire region. “We understand that no project of this magnitude can be completed without some level of inconvenience,” Kesha said. “However, we ask for the public’s patience and understanding, keeping in mind the greater good this project will bring.”
She acknowledged the difficulty faced by residents, particularly those who have lost personal property or accommodation due to the project. “We empathize with them. We know it is not easy to lose one’s home or belongings,” she added.
Initially, the project was planned on a much larger scale, which would have led to even more widespread displacement. However, recognizing the potential impact on local communities, the government revised the scope, reducing it by 60% to lessen the burden on individuals and neighborhoods.
Kesha concluded by reiterating the government’s commitment to ensuring that the construction proceeds with minimal disruption, and that the project will ultimately contribute to improved infrastructure and economic development for the region.
