Police authorities in Adamawa State announced on Wednesday, April 17, that they have apprehended 49 individuals identified as members of the notorious Shila Boys gang.

The gang primarily consists of teenagers and, in some instances, adolescents, who engage in robbery, particularly targeting residents for their mobile phones and other valuables.

Among the newly apprehended suspects are two females, marking a departure from the traditionally male-dominated composition of the Shila Boys.

In a statement released by the Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje, of the Adamawa State Police Command, it was revealed that recent operations conducted by the command resulted in the arrest of these suspects.

SP Nguroje detailed that these operations were carried out in various criminal hideouts and hotspots within the state capital, including Geriyo Junction, Doubeli Junction, Jambutu Aso Rock, Behind Ramat College, and Total Flyover, all situated in Jimeta, Yola North Local Government Area, leading to the apprehension of 47 boys and 2 girls.

“The Commissioner of Police, Dankombo Morris, assures the public that the command remains committed to deploying all necessary resources and strategies to combat Shila gangsterism,” emphasized the police PRO.

The escalation of Shila Boys’ activities prompted the Adamawa State Deputy Governor, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta, to suggest on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, that new measures be implemented to address the situation.
