According to reports, Kalu expressed concern over the worsening security situation in both Borno State and the South East region, emphasizing the need for urgent and strategic government intervention. In a video shared on his social media page on Monday, the former Senate Chief Whip backed Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum’s recent alarm over the deteriorating security landscape.

“If the Federal Government fails to act swiftly in Borno and the South East, the situation could spiral out of control,” he warned.

Kalu acknowledged the efforts of South East governors in curbing insecurity but maintained that federal support is critical.

“Our governors in the South East are doing their best, but the Federal Government needs to enhance security in the region, especially since it serves as a major route for transporting goods from ports and refineries,” he said.

The APC senator stressed that no leader—whether president or governor—wants to witness citizens falling victim to violent crimes, hence the need for continuous investment in national security.

“The insecurity in Borno State, just like in the South East, requires sustained intervention. Security agencies must redouble their efforts to reflect the government’s commitment and ensure safety, which is vital for the country’s economic progress,” he concluded.
