During the delivery event, Health Minister Ali Pate emphasized that the arrival of the vaccines marks a crucial step in the government’s campaign to eliminate malaria in the country. He noted that the initial distribution will target states with the highest malaria burdens, particularly Kebbi and Bayelsa, and will complement existing malaria treatments.
Pate addressed concerns regarding the vaccine’s efficacy, affirming its safety and effectiveness for malaria prevention.
NPHCDA Director General Muyi Aina outlined distribution plans, indicating that an enforcement team will be established, with details on administration dates and locations to be shared soon. Additionally, Aina mentioned that approximately 140,000 more doses are expected in the coming months, aiming for a total of one million doses in this first batch. The R21 malaria vaccine, developed by the Serum Institute of India, will be administered in two doses per vial.
