Forget The Rumours! El-Rufai Still In APC, Holds Strong Influence – Jamoh Reveals
A prominent figure in the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Bashir Jamoh, has reaffirmed that former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai remains a key player within the ruling party, despite widespread rumours about his potential political shift ahead of the 2027 elections.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Jamoh made this assertion during a press briefing in Kaduna on Thursday, amidst rising speculation that El-Rufai may be aligning himself with opposition platforms like the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
According to Jamoh, El-Rufai’s experience and political acumen continue to be valued by APC leadership, regardless of his recent remarks about other political parties.
“In my view, Malam Nasir El-Rufai is still part of the APC family. Yes, he has mentioned affiliations with the SDP and ADC, but we’ve not reached a point where we consider him gone,” Jamoh stated.
He emphasized that the party still consults El-Rufai for his strategic input, noting, “His advice, knowledge, and guidance are still sought after. Politics aside, this is about nation-building.” He added that El-Rufai withholding his wisdom would be a moral failure, saying, “God will question him if he stops offering counsel.”
Jamoh described El-Rufai as an indispensable part of Kaduna’s political story, calling him a “political institution.”
“You don’t disown a child you’ve raised for eight years. He served as a Minister under the PDP, then joined the CPC which merged into the APC, and led Kaduna State for two terms. He’s deeply woven into our political history,” he said.
Even if El-Rufai eventually defects to another party, Jamoh noted, the Kaduna APC will remain grounded, maintaining its structure and focus.
ADC Not a Threat in Kaduna – Jamoh
Speaking on rumours of El-Rufai’s association with the ADC, Jamoh dismissed the party as irrelevant in the state’s political landscape.
“We don’t even know the faces in the ADC. Yes, there’s talk that he leads the North-West zone of the party, but in Kaduna, their presence is insignificant,” Jamoh said.
He added that El-Rufai is ineligible to run for governor again, rendering such speculations baseless.
“The real question is: can any party El-Rufai joins challenge APC’s stronghold in Kaduna?” he asked.
Using a Hausa proverb, Jamoh said, “You can’t pour all your ground corn into one pot — it’ll be too much. APC is too heavy for any party in this state.”
He challenged critics to conduct an independent assessment of Kaduna’s political terrain, noting, “After Uba Sani, who in the opposition can mount a serious gubernatorial challenge? We already have over 10 strong candidates.”
Jamoh acknowledged existing challenges within the APC but stressed that internal efforts are ongoing to address them. He urged loyal party members to stand firm.
“Yes, we’re facing challenges — I won’t deny that. But we’re working through them. That’s why I’m here speaking with you. Don’t be swayed by propaganda suggesting mass defections.
“Don’t abandon the house you’ve built because of false hopes. Stick with the APC — your loyalty will pay off,” he concluded.
