Highlighting Nigeria’s existing 14-year battle with Boko Haram and the ongoing internal challenges, Yusuf emphasized that engaging in a conflict with a neighboring nation would be an inadvisable move.

He condemned the stance of both ECOWAS and President Tinubu, asserting that Nigeria and the Republic of Niger share common heritage and attempting to wage war against one another would be detrimental.

Yusuf criticized the lack of consultations and improper advisory for the decision, stating that the military was not adequately prepared, and the country’s economic condition was unsuitable for such endeavors. He urged a return to negotiation and consultation rather than adopting a confrontational approach.

Asserting that President Tinubu’s primary responsibility is to Nigeria, Yusuf argued that his actions should be aligned with the will of the Nigerian people.

He stressed that any decision involving military intervention must receive approval from the Senate and the populace, as power derives from the people.

Yusuf underscored that focusing on good governance and ending corruption is the effective antidote to prevent military takeovers, rather than embarking on external conflicts.

Yusuf maintained that negotiations should be the approach in resolving the situation in the Niger Republic, emphasizing that military action would be counterproductive and ultimately fail.
