Former Presidential Candidate Moghalu Announces Run For Anambra Governor, Criticizes SoludoFormer Managing Director and CEO of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), George Moghalu, has officially declared his candidacy for the governorship of Anambra State. During a press briefing at his Nnewi residence on Saturday, Moghalu criticized the leadership of the current Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, stating that Soludo has failed the people, and there is a need for new leadership in the upcoming election.
Although there had been rumors that Moghalu might run for the senatorial seat left vacant by the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, he clarified that his focus is solely on the governorship race. Moghalu, who recently resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC), announced his decision to join the Labour Party on October 1.
“I will be contesting for governor next year, not for Senate. Before joining Labour Party, I consulted with my wife, children, followers, and friends, and I am convinced that this is the best platform to achieve my ambition,” Moghalu said.
He highlighted several challenges facing Anambra, including poor infrastructure and deteriorating security under Soludo’s leadership. “Anambra needs urgent redemption. Soludo has failed the people. The state’s infrastructure is lacking, and security has collapsed. What he couldn’t achieve in four years, he won’t achieve in eight,” Moghalu stated.
Acknowledging the existing zoning arrangements in Anambra, Moghalu pointed out that both he and Soludo are from Anambra South, which is currently favored for the governorship. He also committed to serving a single term if elected, ensuring the power rotation continues as planned.
Regarding his exit from APC, Moghalu stressed that political decisions should be guided by local realities, stating, “The choice of leadership in Anambra should be made by the people, not dictated by the federal government.
