Four Arrested As Police Recover Six Generators Stolen From INEC Office

The Kebbi State Police Command has recovered six generators allegedly stolen from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office in Jega Local Government Area of the state and arrested four suspects believed to be connected to the incident.

The recovery followed an investigation launched after the police received a report concerning a break-in at the INEC office in Jega.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the command’s spokesperson, SP Bashir Usman, said police detectives swung into action and arrested four suspects during the investigation, leading to the recovery of the six generators.

Usman disclosed that one of the recovered generators had already been dismantled into scrap components by the suspects, allegedly in preparation for sale, before police operatives recovered it.

In a separate development, the command also arrested two additional suspects over the alleged vandalism and theft of electricity cables in the state.

The police spokesperson identified one of the suspects as 24-year-old Aliyu Muhammed, a resident of Dudduke Village in Jega Local Government Area. He was reportedly arrested at about 7:30 a.m. on August 28, 2026, after he was allegedly found carrying bundles of aluminium cable wires concealed in a sack.

According to the police, Muhammed admitted during interrogation to working with another suspect, identified as Yusuf Dudduke, to allegedly vandalise and steal cables from an electricity pole in the community. His statement reportedly led to the arrest of Yusuf.

The development brings the total number of suspects arrested in the two separate cases to six. The police said all the suspects would remain in custody while investigations continue, after which they would be charged to court.

Commissioner of Police, CP Umar M. Hadejia, warned individuals involved in the theft of government property, breaking and entering, and vandalism of critical infrastructure to desist from such activities.

Hadejia assured residents that the command would continue its efforts to protect public infrastructure and bring suspected offenders to justice.

He further called on members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities or movements to the police.
