Upon a preliminary investigation at the Idi Ayunre site in Oluyole Local Government Area, Ibadan, it was discovered that the facility was being run by Chinese nationals. Governor Makinde emphasized the importance of adhering to approved licenses, pointing out that even though the federal government had issued an operational license to the miners in line with constitutional provisions, the lack of state involvement in the issuance of mining licenses could pose security threats and concerns.

To address the issue comprehensively, the state government plans to take legal action to seize control of the illegal factory facility. This move underscores the commitment to thoroughly investigate and resolve the matter. As of February 25, 2024, these actions mark a significant step in curbing illegal mining activities and ensuring the proper regulation of such operations in Oyo state.
