In a press statement released on Thursday in Lafia, the command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Ramhan Nansel, shared details of the arrest. According to Nansel, the imposter, identified as Muhammed Haladu, was taken into custody on January 6, 2024, at about 17:39 hrs. The suspect, clad in full military camouflage, was intercepted by two soldiers on pass in Awe LGA and promptly delivered to the Police at Awe Division.

Despite claiming to be a soldier attached to the 231 Battalion in Biu, Borno State, further inquiry revealed the falsehood of the suspect’s statement. Investigations indicated that the individual attempted to enlist in the military but failed, resorting to purchasing military attire to deceive the public and commit fraudulent acts related to securing employment in the Nigerian Army.

The statement also highlighted the arrest of a notorious armed robbery suspect named Kabiru Yusuf, who had been causing unrest among the state’s residents. Acting on credible information, the Anti-Robbery team intercepted Yusuf and two accomplices riding an unregistered Bajaj Motorcycle on January 10, 2024, around 11:30 hrs in Fadaman Bauna.

Upon sighting the police, the suspects abandoned the motorcycle and attempted to flee, but Kabiru Alhaji Yusuf was successfully apprehended. A subsequent search led to the discovery of an AK-47 rifle and the impounded motorcycle.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Shehu Nadada, commended the officers for their exemplary work and urged them to sustain their efforts in combating criminal activities across the 13 local government areas of the state.
