Senator Abdullahi explained that the initiative will empower small-scale farmers and contribute to the growth of the nation’s economy. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the GIP Phase 1, valued at $1.1 billion, was signed in 2018, while Phase 2, worth $4.3 billion, and the $2.5 billion JBS were signed in Brazil during President Bola Tinubu’s visit to the country last year.

He made this statement on Monday during the signing of the commercial phase of GIP 1 at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The Minister described the commercial phase of the Green Imperative Project as a transformative initiative that will reshape Nigeria’s agricultural sector and strengthen food security.

“This milestone, achieved after six years of collaboration with Brazil, supports President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s vision to revolutionize agriculture and unlock the full potential of the private sector,” Abdullahi said.

He highlighted that the GIP, the largest agricultural initiative in the country, will empower small-scale farmers, boost food production, and integrate them into robust value chains, driving sustainable economic growth.

“Although it started seven years behind schedule, this is a significant step forward. With 2025 set to be a pivotal year for food security, we are determined to drive progress, attract investment, and secure a prosperous future for Nigeria’s agricultural sector,” he added.
