Girls Won’t Date Me– Lady Reveals What Her Huge Income Would Mean If She Were a Man

A Nigerian woman has sparked a debate on social media after sharing her perspective on the financial expectations often placed on men in romantic relationships.

The woman, who expressed her views on X, formerly known as Twitter, said her salary and other sources of income are barely enough to cover her personal expenses.

Reflecting on the situation, she wondered how difficult it would be for her if she were a man expected to financially support a partner while also meeting his own needs and responsibilities.

According to her, considering the amount she currently earns, she could hardly imagine how she would cope with the financial demands of maintaining a romantic relationship.

She explained that men are often expected to provide money, take their partners on outings, buy gifts, handle emergencies and organise special celebrations, while still taking care of themselves and supporting other family members.

The woman said that if she were a man earning her current income, she believed many women might consider her financially incapable of meeting their expectations and may therefore be unwilling to date her.

She wrote, “Honestly speaking, with the way I am as a girl and my salary and other sources of income are barely enough for me, I sometimes wonder what would have happened if I were a guy.

“Because how do I even use this salary to maintain a relationship? Where exactly would I see the money to maintain a babe when I am still trying to sort out my own needs?

“If I were a man with this kind of income, no girl would even agree to date me. I would just be somewhere minding my business because where would I find money to maintain babe, take her out, send her money, buy gifts, handle emergencies, birthday surprise and still have something left for myself and younger siblings?”

She further argued that men should not be forced to spend beyond their financial capacity simply to demonstrate their love.

The woman encouraged women to appreciate the genuine efforts of their partners, particularly when they are aware that the men are doing their best within their means.

According to her, although a partner may not always provide the amount expected, genuine effort should still be recognised.

She concluded by stressing that men should not have to put themselves under severe financial pressure or destroy their finances simply to prove their affection for their partners.

Her comments have since generated reactions online, with social media users sharing different views on financial expectations, gender roles and responsibilities in romantic relationships.
