Good Riddance! Malami Has No Political Value – Kebbi Govt Mocks Defection To ADC
The Kebbi State Government has dismissed the defection of former Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN), to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing it as politically insignificant and irrelevant to the people and leadership of the state.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Speaking to Daily Trust, Ahmed Idris, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Nasir Idris, stated that Malami’s departure from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) was of no consequence, as he had not made any meaningful contribution to the current administration.
“Malami’s defection is not something that bothers either the government or the people of Kebbi State. On the contrary, we are pleased. He added no real value to our administration,” Idris remarked.
He emphasized that Governor Idris has already earned deep-rooted popularity across the state through impactful governance, making any political realignment by Malami irrelevant.
“Our governor’s achievements have firmly endeared him to the people. In fact, there’s growing public support for him to continue beyond his current tenure or even contest for the presidency,” he said.
Idris also questioned Malami’s political strength, stating that the former AGF has consistently failed to win his polling unit and lacks any meaningful electoral influence in Kebbi.
“Malami holds no political weight here. He’s never won his own polling unit, let alone make an impact statewide. His defection is a non-issue,” he added.
Coalition Driven by Personal Ambitions
Commenting on Malami’s involvement in emerging political coalitions ahead of 2027, Idris suggested such moves are self-serving.
“Those forming opposition alliances, whether from the APC or PDP, are doing so out of personal ambition, not in service to the people,” he said.
He also criticized Malami’s efforts to mobilize grassroots support, citing youth complaints of being invited to political meetings and then abandoned.
“Some youths who attended strategy meetings organized by Malami’s camp later came to me disappointed. He didn’t support or follow up with them,” Idris disclosed.
Highlighting Governor Idris’ inclusive leadership, the CPS praised his appointments of non-indigenes and cited himself—a Nupe man from Niger State—as an example of the governor’s commitment to unity.
“Governor Idris does not discriminate based on tribe or state of origin. I’m not from Kebbi, yet I was appointed as his Chief Press Secretary. That says a lot,” he said.
He listed key achievements of the administration, including the completion of the state secretariat, renovation of traditional palaces, vehicle provision for traditional leaders, and free distribution of over 200 trucks of fertiliser.
The administration, he added, has also made major strides in security by setting up operational bases in previously troubled areas such as Shanga and Yauri.
“Those areas are now safer. Farming and peaceful living have resumed,” Idris noted.
“Malami Should Rethink His Decision”
Concluding his remarks, Idris urged Malami to reconsider his departure from the APC, reminding him that the party was instrumental in his political rise.
“My advice to Malami is to reconsider his move. APC is the party that helped him grow. Loyalty to the platform that built him should matter,” he said.
“No one in Kebbi can outshine the goodwill, achievements, and legacy of Governor Nasir Idris. The people stand firmly behind him.”
