The planned meeting between the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), which was scheduled for today, August 26, has been postponed.
ASUU President Emmanuel Osodeke confirmed that the meeting, initially set to address concerns and prevent another ASUU strike, will no longer take place today. This change was announced by the Minister of Education.
The meeting has been rescheduled to Wednesday, August 28. No official reason has been provided for the postponement.
This development follows ASUU’s recent threat to initiate a nationwide strike, citing the Federal Government’s failure to honor the 2009 renegotiated agreement.
The decision to possibly strike was part of the resolutions reached during the union’s national executive council meeting, which took place at the University of Ibadan over the previous weekend.
ASUU’s demands include addressing welfare issues, securing adequate funding for universities, and curbing the excessive establishment of new universities across the country.
