Reports indicate that the terminal’s roof—yet to be put into use—was torn off by the storm. The debris reportedly spilled onto a major roadway, worsening traffic conditions and triggering severe gridlock along the Nyanya–Keffi Expressway in Abuja, particularly during peak hours as commuters were heading home.

In a separate development, Wike has ordered the immediate arrest of the owner of a hotel building that collapsed last Friday in Jikwoyi, Abuja. He also directed that the land be taken over by the government and converted for public use.

During an inspection visit to the site, the minister disclosed that the structure was erected without approval from the FCT Department of Development Control, despite multiple stop-work notices issued to the developer. Although no fatalities were recorded, several individuals sustained injuries and received medical treatment.

Wike warned that the outcome could have been far more severe had the incident occurred at a busier time. He affirmed that the government would prosecute those responsible and repurpose the land for public benefit, adding that the host community would be involved in deciding the project to be developed there.

He also urged developers to strictly comply with building regulations and secure the necessary approvals before embarking on construction projects.
