President Bola Tinubu chaired the weekly Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting on Wednesday at the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The gathering saw the presence of Vice President Kashim Shettima, Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, Head of Service (HoS) Yemi Esan, ministers, and heads of agencies.

Here are the key points from the session:

  1. President Tinubu reiterated the government’s commitment to supporting security agencies in rescuing abducted citizens, including pupils and students, from the grips of bandits. It was emphasized that the government would not entertain paying any ransom to the bandits.
  2. The Council sanctioned a contract for the engagement of Messrs R2U Architects as consultants for the construction of NDLEA barracks in Enugu, Kano, and Jigawa states.
  3. Approval was granted for Group Life Insurance for police personnel, property insurance for police buildings and barracks, as well as aviation and marine insurance, totaling N20.1 Billion. The insurance services will be provided by Messrs Total Security Insurance Brokers and Messrs Golan Heights Insurance Brokers, leading a consortium of almost 100 brokers, with Leadway Assurance and Anchor Insurance as lead underwriters.
  4. The augmentation of the contract for the dualization of Obajana-Benin Road was endorsed, amounting to N897.6 Billion. Initially awarded in 2012, contracts for the four sections of the road were assigned to Messrs Mothercat Nigeria Limited, Messrs CGC Nigeria, Messrs Dantata Sawoe Construction, and Messrs RCC Nigeria Limited at a cost of N122 billion.
  5. The construction of Isheri North-Ogun state road was given the green light at a cost of N2.2 billion. This road project aims to alleviate congestion on the Lagos-Shagamu Expressway.
  6. Council also approved the contract for the rehabilitation of Ebute Ero Outer Marina Shoreline in Lagos, totaling N114.1 Billion, with a completion timeline of 30 months.
  7. The Council received briefings from the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Minister of Communications, and Minister of Trade and Industry, highlighting significant achievements within their respective ministries and in the country as a whole.
