House Representative Spokesperson Praises Speaker Abbas For Successful Passage Of 2024 Budget

The Deputy Spokesperson of the House of Representatives, Philip Agbese, has expressed commendation for Speaker Tajudeen Abbas and Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, praising them for fulfilling the commitment to pass the 2024 budget before the end of 2023. During a special plenary session on Saturday, the lawmakers passed the 2024 budget, amounting to N28.7 trillion, exceeding President Bola Tinubu’s proposed N27.5 trillion. The budget allocation included N1.7 trillion for statutory transfers, N8.77 trillion for recurrent expenditure, N9.99 trillion for capital expenditure, and N8.27 trillion for debt service.

Bichi, presenting the report, justified the increase, citing commitments from revenue-generating agencies and Government Owned Enterprises to contribute significantly to the 2024 revenue.

Agbese, in response on Sunday, applauded his colleagues for their dedication, emphasizing that the sacrifices made “will not be taken for granted.” He praised the 10th House for its commitment to discomfort its members for the betterment of Nigerians. Agbese highlighted the House’s decision to adjourn plenary for three weeks to thoroughly study the budget proposal, even working on non-working days and holidays to meet the promise of passing the budget before the end of the year.

He expressed gratitude that the legislative arm fulfilled its promise and aligned with President Bola Tinubu’s ‘Renewed Hope Agenda,’ emphasizing the commitment to maintaining the January-December budget cycle.

Agbese, representing Ado/Okpokwu/Ogbadibo Federal Constituency of Benue State, also commended the Appropriation Committee for allocating the additional N1.27 trillion to the capital component, marking the first time the capital component surpassed recurrent expenditure in the nation’s budget.
