I Have Been Through Hell and Back – Lydia Chemu Breaks Silence After Escaping Abusive Marriage

Published

A Kenyan woman, Lydia Chemu, has sparked widespread discussion on domestic violence after sharing a distressing account of the alleged abuse she endured during her four-year marriage to her husband, identified as Kim JJ.

According to Bush Radio Academy, Chemu said she suffered repeated physical violence throughout the marriage, alleging that her husband frequently beat and strangled her. She further claimed that he cut one of her ears, describing their home as a place of constant fear and violence.

The woman revealed that the alleged abuse continued even when she was eight months pregnant and persisted after she gave birth. According to her account, she endured further violence just one week after delivering her child.

Chemu explained that leaving the marriage was difficult because she had nowhere suitable to go with her children. She also said she feared returning to her family home because she was worried about being judged.

Her situation reportedly reached a critical point when friends intervened after an alleged violent attack in which her husband kicked her repeatedly. Chemu claimed the incident resulted in the loss of some of her teeth.

She said those friends later helped raise money to enable her to leave the marriage and begin rebuilding her life.

In a video shared after leaving the relationship, Chemu expressed gratitude to those who supported her and appealed to the public not to judge her harshly. She also declared her determination to recover from the ordeal and regain her confidence.

“I have been through hell and back, but it shall be well,” she said, expressing hope for a better future.

Her account, accompanied by photographs shared online, has generated widespread reactions across Kenyan social media platforms, with many users expressing sympathy and calling for accountability over the allegations.

The case has once again drawn attention to the dangers of domestic violence and the challenges survivors may face when attempting to leave abusive relationships, particularly when children, financial difficulties and fear of social stigma are involved.

The allegations against Kim JJ have not been independently verified in the information available, and no official statement from him or details of any legal proceedings were provided in the account.
