During a meeting with youth leaders and stakeholders in Port Harcourt on Saturday, Ibas urged the state’s youth to actively engage in the administration’s processes, particularly in efforts to restore democratic institutions and foster lasting peace. He made the statement while meeting with heads of youth organizations and key figures, including Nwisabari Bani, the Rivers State Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN).

The meeting, held at Government House, was part of Ibas’ ongoing initiative to build trust and promote inclusivity by engaging various societal sectors.

In a statement from the Government House press unit, Ibas emphasized the importance of consultations with civil society organizations, traditional leaders, civil servants, and other community leaders, which are crucial in identifying development priorities for the state. A key part of this strategy is ensuring the youth have a seat at the decision-making table.

Ibas outlined his administration’s multifaceted approach to youth development, focusing on four main areas:

  • Education: Prioritizing education to equip the youth with the skills and knowledge necessary for the future.

  • Vocational Training: Creating opportunities for youth to acquire skills for economic independence.

  • Economic Opportunities: Ensuring job access and promoting entrepreneurship and innovation.

  • Digital Inclusion: Fostering digital literacy to enable youth participation in the global economy.

Ibas also stressed that his administration remains focused on peace-building and conflict resolution, emphasizing the importance of dialogue between groups to foster understanding and heal past divisions.
