The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has provided assurance to Nigerians regarding maximum security during the upcoming 2024 Easter holiday travels. Egbetokun has sought to allay any concerns about security threats, emphasizing that sufficient measures have been put in place to ensure safety.
In a statement issued by Force Spokesperson, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the IGP reiterated the police force’s commitment to safeguarding citizens and visitors throughout the Easter festivities. Continuous security surveillance and protection of public areas nationwide have been directed by the IGP.
State Commissioners of Police (CPs) and their overseeing Zonal Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs) have been instructed to deploy personnel and operational resources to areas at risk of security threats within their respective Areas of Responsibility (AoRs).
The statement further outlined plans for intensive and proactive visibility patrols at various locations including worship centres, train stations, highways, motor parks, airports, waterways, recreation centres, banks, and other critical infrastructures. The IGP assured all travelers of adequate security regardless of their mode of travel – road, air, waterways, or rail, with increased deployments and intensified visibility patrols.
Emphasizing professional conduct among deployed officers, the statement stressed courteousness towards law-abiding citizens while maintaining firmness towards criminal elements. The IGP extended Easter felicitations to Nigerians, urging cooperation with security agencies and prompt reporting of suspicious activities.
In conclusion, the Nigeria Police Force reiterated its commitment to serving and protecting the public, urging vigilance and cooperation to ensure a safe and peaceful environment for all during the Easter celebrations.
