Imo Authorities Apprehend 14 Suspects In Connection With Alleged Cult Activities
Police in Imo State have apprehended fourteen individuals suspected of being affiliated with the Black-Axe confraternity during an operation targeting cult-related activities on May 6.
According to ASP Henry Okoye, spokesperson for the Imo State Police Command, the arrests followed an intelligence-led raid on a suspected criminal hideout in Irete, Owerri West LGA. The operation was conducted by officers on routine confidence-building patrol.
Items confiscated from the suspects included a locally made single barrel pistol, two rounds of live cartridges, and various other incriminating materials.
The suspects are currently in police custody, where a comprehensive investigation has been launched to apprehend other members of the group, as well as the individuals responsible for manufacturing and distributing the illegal firearm. They will face charges in court once the investigation is concluded.
The Commissioner of Police for Imo State has reassured residents that the crackdown on cultism and other criminal activities will continue unabated. He urges parents and guardians to counsel their children against involvement in such illicit behavior.
