Speaking with Daily Trust on Monday, Dr. Umar Ardo, one of the coalition’s leaders, confirmed that while most members have agreed to align with the ADC, efforts to register the ADA will continue.

“Most of the leaders have endorsed the ADC and will make a formal announcement on Wednesday. However, we’ve also resolved to pursue both strategies concurrently,” Ardo stated.

He emphasized that the coalition remains optimistic that INEC will eventually approve ADA’s registration, adding that all legal and procedural requirements are being diligently followed.

According to Ardo, the dual-track approach—adopting an existing party while pushing for a new one—is not contradictory but complementary.

“Registering a new party, like adopting an existing one, requires grassroots mobilisation and recruitment. Both strategies aim toward the same goal,” he explained.

Ardo also noted two key motivations behind seeking ADA’s registration: concerns about “external manipulation” and the influence of entrenched interests within existing parties.

“Many fear INEC interference under government pressure. But integrating into an established party can leave us more vulnerable to manipulation due to pre-existing power structures,” he warned.
