The 2023 presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Adewole Adebayo, has weighed in on the controversy surrounding a account allegedly linked to the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Joash Amupitan.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The controversy began after the account was accused of sharing partisan content in support of the All Progressives Congress (APC) during the 2023 general elections.

However, INEC has maintained that Amupitan neither owns nor operates any personal account and has not engaged in partisan commentary.

Speaking during an appearance on Channels Television, Adebayo explained that even if it were proven that the account belonged to Amupitan, it would not automatically disqualify him from holding office under the law.

He noted that the key requirement is that the INEC chairman must not be affiliated with any political party at the time of appointment, adding that past political involvement does not necessarily invalidate eligibility.

According to him, participation in voting or previous affiliations does not prevent someone from being appointed to the role.

However, Adebayo stressed that the real concern would arise if there is evidence that the INEC chairman misled the public about the issue, describing it as a matter of integrity.

He said such a situation could be addressed through legal action or an investigation by the National Assembly.

He also pointed out that while online identities can be manipulated, forensic tools exist to trace digital activity, noting that any claims of partisanship would ultimately need to be proven through proper legal or legislative processes.
