for voter authentication and uploading election results to the INEC Result Viewing Portal (IReV) during the November 11 governorship elections in Imo, Bayelsa, and Kogi states.

Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, the Chairman of INEC, made this announcement during the quarterly consultative meeting with the media at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja on Thursday.

Yakubu expressed his satisfaction with the close collaboration between the media and the Commission, assuring that reports from the 2023 general election would be shared with the public once finalized and published.

“I am pleased to note that many of those present today are directly involved in election coverage or are dispatching teams of journalists to the three states,” he stated. “Our updated statistics indicate that 94 media organizations, deploying 1,255 personnel, have been accredited for the elections.”

Yakubu also mentioned that the accredited media organizations would soon receive notification regarding the collection of identity cards for their officials.

He went on to describe the successful mock accreditation exercise conducted by INEC a couple of weeks ago, which involved actual voters in designated polling units in the three states.

The exercise tested the effectiveness of the BVAS for biometric voter authentication and result uploading to the IReV portal.

No adverse reports have been received so far, indicating the success of the test. INEC looks forward to improved BVAS performance in voter accreditation and result uploading during the upcoming governorship elections.
