INEC Reports Delay As Eight Parties Still Seek Edo Guber Candidates With Three Days Left

Seventy-two hours remain until the March 24 deadline for candidate submissions for the September 21 governorship election in Edo State. Despite this looming deadline, eight of the 18 political parties vying for participation in the election have yet to file their nominations through the dedicated portal provided by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Speaking at a quarterly consultative meeting with media organizations in Abuja, INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, emphasized that there would be no extension to the deadline. He revealed that, as per the election timetable, political parties had a 20-day window from March 4, 2024, to upload the lists and personal particulars of their candidates on the designated web portal.

Yakubu further outlined the timeline, stating that by March 31, 2024, the Commission would publish the personal particulars of the candidates (Form EC9) as mandated by law. He urged the media and the public, particularly registered voters in Edo State, to scrutinize the details and credentials of the candidates, highlighting the significance of this publication in accordance with the law.
