The commission, in a statement signed by the FCT Resident Electoral Commissioner, said the mock exercise is scheduled for Saturday, February 7, 2026, and will be conducted in 289 selected polling units between 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.

INEC explained that the exercise is designed to assess the voter accreditation process and the functionality of its results upload technology, with the aim of ensuring a seamless and credible election on the main polling day.

According to the commission, the simulation will allow it to refine procedures and detect any possible challenges before the actual election.

Registered voters in the selected polling units have been urged to come along with their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and take part in the exercise. INEC stressed that voter participation is crucial to enhancing its level of preparedness.

The commission added that the complete list of polling units selected for the mock exercise is available on its official website.

INEC further reaffirmed its commitment to conducting a free, fair, and credible Area Council election in the FCT on February 21, 2026.

Meanwhile, the INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, is leading a security strategy meeting with members of the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja.

The meeting forms part of ongoing consultations with key stakeholders to strengthen security arrangements ahead of the FCT elections and the Ekiti State governorship election slated for June 20, 2026.

Prof. Yakubu said INEC is collaborating closely with security agencies to ensure the safety of voters, electoral officials, and election materials.

He also charged security agencies to remain vigilant and proactive in tackling vote buying and other electoral offences, emphasizing that strict enforcement of the law is essential to safeguarding the integrity of the electoral process.

The high-level meeting was attended by representatives of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu.
