The controversy began on social media when a woman reacted to the song, questioning why the singer, who is approaching 50, was still actively making music.

“I don’t get why an almost 50-year-old man is still singing like this. It’s okay to retire,” she wrote.

The comment quickly sparked debate online, drawing reactions from fans and celebrities, including media personality Do2dtun, popularly known as Dotun.

Coming to Peter’s defense, Dotun highlighted several international music icons who remain active performers despite their age. He cited artists such as Celine Dion, Shakira, Beyoncé, Busta Rhymes, Bruce Springsteen, Lionel Richie and members of the Backstreet Boys, noting that they continue to perform for audiences worldwide.

According to him, age should not be used as a measure of an artist’s relevance or ability to entertain.

Reacting to the criticism, Peter expressed appreciation for Dotun’s support while taking a swipe at those attacking him online.

“No be me increase fuel price for Naija. Frustration dey everywhere, but somehow na Mr P dem wan blame,” he wrote.

The singer noted that critics had previously questioned his talent and vocal ability before shifting their focus to his age.

“After dem realize say all those narratives no hold water, dem come with another one: ‘Now he is too old to be singing and dancing,’” he said.

Peter also pointed out what he described as double standards, arguing that many of those criticizing him celebrate global stars such as Usher, Beyoncé and Chris Brown for delivering similar high-energy performances.

Defending his craft, the singer highlighted his versatility as a performer, stating that he combines singing, dancing, live performance skills, proficiency in multiple musical instruments and formal music education.

He further suggested that much of the criticism stems from fans who remain unhappy about the breakup of the former music duo, P-Square.

“One thing for sure, most of these people na PSQUARE heartbroken fans, and honestly, I understand their feelings. Them go dey alright las las. Nothing lasts forever. Change is constant. Respect our decision and move on,” he stated.

Speaking about his career as a solo artist, Peter described the move as one of the best decisions he has ever made.

“As for this solo journey? It’s one of the best things that has ever happened in my life, and I honestly don’t care what anyone thinks,” he added.
