Addressing party stakeholders at a press conference in Jos on Friday, Jang maintained that Mutfwang continues to be the PDP governor until the APC officially grants him its mandate in 2027.
He emphasized that Mutfwang still holds the PDP mandate given to him by the people of the state and urged citizens to stop referring to him as an APC governor.
“His Excellency, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang remains the PDP Governor despite his recent defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress. He will only cease to be a PDP governor when the APC in the state gives him another mandate in 2027,” Jang said.
Jang also warned that the increasing wave of defections by politicians toward a dominant party poses a threat to democracy, potentially paving the way for a one-party state, and must be resisted by all democratic actors.
“The PDP remains the only surviving organic political party since 1998, endowed with historical resilience, institutional depth, and a national character capable of withstanding internal and external pressures,” he said.
“The PDP is more than a political platform; it is a democratic institution. It has played a pivotal role in stabilizing Nigeria’s democracy since 1999 and providing opportunities for countless Nigerians to serve at various levels of governance.”
Senator Jang further urged state party leaders to prioritize people-centered interests over personal ambitions, emphasizing that strong political parties are the foundation of democratic stability.
