Power Play Exposed: Lawmaker Reveals Wike’s Role In Fubara Impeachment Plans

In an interview on Thursday with Channels Television’s Politics Today, the Assembly’s spokesperson, Enemi George, strongly denied any external interference, emphasizing that lawmakers are acting strictly within the bounds of the Constitution.
Addressing allegations of Wike’s involvement, George stated, “Mixing politics with constitutional responsibilities would be dangerous.” He added that the legislature should not be seen as subject to any individual’s influence, describing claims of Wike’s role as both unfair and demeaning to the House.
“This is like pouring oil into water—they don’t mix unless boiled. The FCT minister is a politician, but constitutional matters must remain separate from political considerations,” George said.
Clarifying his personal position, George noted, “I am not a party chief but the spokesperson of the Rivers State House of Assembly. While I may be politically aligned with the FCT minister personally, it is insulting to reduce the work of a constitutionally created institution to mere politics or the influence of one individual.”
On the possibility of political intervention halting the impeachment process, George was firm: “There is no room for a political solution to stop what is underway. Our focus remains on due process and the law.”
He further stressed that repeated actions by the governor cannot be resolved politically, describing Fubara as a recidivist: “He’s punished or forgiven, and then repeats the offence. So what’s the need for a political solution?”
George concluded by reiterating that the Assembly’s attention remains on legal and constitutional matters rather than political maneuvering.
