The Japanese government has officially designated the city of Kisarazu as the “hometown” for Nigerians willing to live and work in the country, part of its strategic efforts to strengthen cultural diplomacy, boost economic growth, and enhance workforce productivity.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Announced on Thursday during the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9), the initiative includes a special visa category for highly skilled, innovative, and talented young Nigerians seeking to relocate to Kisarazu. Additionally, Nigerian blue-collar workers willing to upskill will benefit from the visa scheme, enabling them to live and work in Japan.

Nigeria’s Charge d’Affaires, Mrs. Florence Akinyemi Adeseke, who also serves as Acting Ambassador to Japan, and Kisarazu Mayor Yoshikuni Watanabe, received the official certificate recognizing Kisarazu as the Nigerian hometown.

Similarly, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) designated Nagai in Yamagata Prefecture as the hometown of Tanzania, Sanjo in Niigata Prefecture for Ghana, and Imabari in Ehime Prefecture for Mozambique. This initiative aims to strengthen exchanges between Japan and the four African countries, officially connecting municipalities that already maintain bilateral ties.

According to the Director of Information at the State House, Abiodun Oladunjoye, these city designations will foster two-way manpower development exchanges, contributing to economic growth in both Japan and the respective African countries.
