In a statement on Saturday, Damagun’s Personal Assistant, Nuru Shehu Jos, debunked the claims as fake news aimed at misleading the public and destabilizing the party. He reaffirmed that Damagun remains in office, stressing that the PDP constitution guarantees the National Chairman a four-year tenure.
“Our attention has been drawn to a fabricated report alleging that Ambassador Umar Damagun has resigned. This is completely false and a deliberate attempt to sow confusion,” the statement read.
The party also refuted claims that Arise News was the source of the false resignation story, urging the public to disregard such misinformation.
Additionally, the PDP issued a stern warning to those spreading the fake report, cautioning them against engaging in defamation and misinformation, as legal action could follow.
“This malicious content against Ambassador Damagun is entirely false, defamatory, and a criminal act. The law will soon catch up with those responsible for this mischief,” the statement added.
Reassuring party members, stakeholders, and supporters, the PDP called for unity, emphasizing that the party remains strong and focused under Damagun’s leadership.
“We urge all PDP members—elders, stakeholders, youths, and women’s groups—to ignore this fake news and stand firm. The party remains resolute under Ambassador Damagun’s leadership,” the statement concluded.
