Senator Nwoko clarified that the suspension was not related to any allegations of sexual harassment involving Senate President Godswill Akpabio. In a statement posted on his account on Saturday, Nwoko urged against interpreting Natasha’s suspension through a gender-biased lens.

He emphasized that the Kogi Central Senator was suspended for breaching Senate rules, not for any claims of sexual harassment.

“It’s crucial to separate facts from sensationalism and avoid using gender bias to distract from the disorderly conduct within the Senate. The chamber is a place for order, debate, and democratic processes—not personal grievances or emotional outbursts,” Nwoko stated.

He clarified that Natasha’s suspension stemmed from her behavior in the Senate, not her petition, which she had confirmed was not under consideration.

Seat Reallocation Is Standard Procedure

Nwoko further explained that the seat reallocation issue was a routine Senate practice. He pointed out that it was improper for any senator to reject an assigned seat.

“Reallocation of seats is a common and longstanding practice. I’ve been moved three times myself. If a senator leaves—whether due to death, defection, or other reasons—a shift in seating arrangements happens. This practice occurs across party lines and ensures order, seniority, and balance.”

He added, “A new senator doesn’t sit where a senior one was. The seating rearranges to respect seniority and maintain structure. This is a normal, standard procedure.”

Natasha’s Refusal to Comply Caused Disruption

Nwoko described how Natasha disrupted the Senate’s proceedings when asked to move to her newly assigned seat.

“On that day, Senator Natasha refused to move, even though seating changes are common. When asked to comply, she raised her voice, shouting, ‘I am not scared of you!’ This behavior was completely inappropriate and uncalled for.”

He stressed that her reaction went beyond a seating issue and became a matter of discipline and respect for the institution.

Due Process Followed for Suspension

The Delta North Senator defended the Senate’s decision to suspend Natasha, stating the process followed proper procedures. He explained that after the incident, the Senate Ethics Committee invited her for a hearing.

“She was given the chance to apologize, but she refused. The committee then conducted a hearing, and all present agreed her behavior was unruly. The report was clear, and the decision to suspend her was in line with due process,” Nwoko concluded.
