Aja noted that without a robust Naira, the alternative to lower PMS prices would be through subsidies, either on the dollar or on crude oil specifically for the Dangote refinery. He emphasized that a stronger Naira would enable Nigerians to afford $80 per barrel of Brent crude even with the existing minimum wage of N70,000.

In his post on X, Aja highlighted that boosting oil output would allow Nigeria to sell more oil and utilize the surplus beyond the OPEC quota to supply subsidized crude to the Dangote refinery. He cautioned against returning to subsidies due to their high cost and the poor financial management of various levels of government.

Aja’s post stated: “To reduce PMS prices, focus on a stronger Naira and increased oil production. A stronger Naira would allow Nigerians to afford $80 per barrel of Brent crude despite the minimum wage. More oil output would enable Nigeria to use surplus production to supply subsidized crude to Dangote at N100 per barrel.

“Without a stronger Naira, reducing PMS prices will require subsidizing either the dollar or crude oil for Dangote. However, subsidies are costly, and the Federation’s financial management is inadequate.

“In summary, effective solutions may involve reinstating subsidies, but possibly at the pump rather than the ports. The Dangote refinery’s contribution has mitigated some of these challenges.”

Aja concluded by acknowledging the importance of the Dangote refinery in the current context, stating, “Thank you, Dangote, for your role in this situation.”
