The Supreme Court’s decision to order a retrial of Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), has sparked discussions and heightened tensions, leading to the sit-at-home protests observed on Mondays in the South-East region.

Kalu, however, provided a glimpse of hope, revealing that negotiations were underway to secure Kanu’s release. While addressing the youth, he emphasized the need to end the sit-at-home protests, citing concerns that it was discouraging potential investors crucial for the region’s development.

The Deputy Speaker also highlighted the importance of the Peace In South East Project (PISE-P) in Bende Local Government Area of Abia State. He urged those with arms to embrace non-kinetic approaches, emphasizing the significance of unity in resolving security challenges and other regional concerns.

Expressing support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s government, Kalu called for collaboration to ensure optimal development in the South-East. He emphasized the need for peaceful methods, stating that violence could not coerce the government and advocating for unity and support for the President’s initiatives.

Kalu acknowledged recent positive developments, such as the appointment of the Chief of Naval Staff from the Igbo community and the allocation of the Minister of Works to Senator Dave Umahi. He urged the youth to participate in the rebuilding, reconciliation, and rehabilitation efforts, emphasizing that violence was not representative of the strength of the Igbo people.

In discussing the sit-at-home protests, Kalu encouraged a shift in focus towards constructive engagement and collaboration. He highlighted the willingness of wealthy individuals to invest in the region and create job opportunities but cautioned against actions that might deter them.

The Deputy Speaker also expressed appreciation for the support of the governors of the five eastern states for the PISE-P, clarifying that the project was not politically motivated but aimed at community service. Kalu emphasized the collective responsibility of both government officials and citizens in achieving peace and development in the South-East.
