In a broadcast on Wednesday night, Bayero explained that he had decided to call off the event to avoid any potential breakdown of law and order in the state. “This decision comes after consultation with respected religious leaders, elders, and our council members,” he stated.
Bayero further expressed his hope that this action would contribute to lasting peace in the region. “The Sallah durbar is not a matter of life and death. If it leads to unrest and potential loss of life and property, it is only right to forgo the event,” he emphasized.
He also urged the people of Kano to use the festive period for visits and strengthening familial bonds.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian government, led by President Bola Tinubu, declared March 31 (Monday) and April 1 (Tuesday), 2025, as public holidays to mark the Eid-el-Fitr celebration. Tunji-Ojo congratulated Muslims on the successful completion of Ramadan fasting and urged them to embody self-discipline, compassion, generosity, and peace. He also emphasized the importance of unity and forgiveness during the celebration.
The minister encouraged Nigerians to pray for the peace, stability, and prosperity of the nation during this festive period and to celebrate responsibly, remembering the less privileged through acts of charity. He concluded by sending Eid Mubarak wishes to all Muslim faithful, hoping the blessings of the season would bring happiness and fulfillment.
