Katsina Protest Leaders Arrested By DSS

The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested leaders of the nationwide protest against bad governance in Katsina State. Additionally, Mujittapha Usman, who led the protest in Malumfashi Local Government Area, was also taken into custody by security forces.

Friends of the detainees reported that the DSS had initially contacted them by phone, requesting their presence for questioning about the previous day’s protest. However, upon their arrival at the DSS headquarters in Katsina, they were detained and have not been released as of the latest update.

The initially peaceful protest turned violent when a chaotic crowd, including many minors, began to vandalize public property. The protesters, chanting “Bamuyi Bamuyi,” destroyed a National Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) patrol vehicle in the state capital and set fire to the All Progressives Congress office in Dutsinma Local Government Area.

In response to the unrest, the Katsina State Government imposed a 24-hour curfew on Dutsinma Local Government Area and a 7pm to 7am curfew on the remaining 34 LGAs of the state.
